Dubai City
There is lot of things to go, see and experience in Dubai. One of the jewels that Dubai has offered to the world is the Burj Al Arab. This hotel is the only one to have a six star rating, and it has a seven star property rating as well. The Burj Al Arab’s construction began in 1994, and it was built on an artificial island. The building was to become a symbolic and iconic statement of Dubai just like how the Statue of Liberty is to New York, the Forbidden City of Beijing, The Big Ben of
London, and many more. The finished Burj Al Arab was a great architectural achievement in itself. It housed the world’s tallest atrium and was one of the tallest luxury hotels in the world. Burj Al Arab is not only a testament of Dubai’s major role in world affairs, but also a statement of architectural innovation and creativity. Another building that has astounded people all over the world is the soon to be finished Burj Dubai. The Burj Dubai, upon completion, will be the tallest structure ever built by man. Yet to be finished, it has already surpassed Taipei 101, the current tallest building on earth.
The tallest manmade structure to have existed on earth was the Warsaw Radio Mast, which collapsed in 1991. But even the Burj Dubai will surpass the Warsaw Radio Mast once it opens in 2009. The Burj Dubai has both residential and commercial properties, including hotels, luxury retails stores, and even the first ever Armani Residences. The maintenance of the building itself is already an enormous feat, with innovative ways to run the water system, wiring, fire escapes, and even the elevators. Burj Dubai will push the boundaries of what was first thought as impossible in the field of engineering and architecture. These are just the few reasons why among the major cities in the world, Dubai City stands out and makes its own distinct mark. Dubai has an annual economic growth of five to nine percent, one the highest and fastest in the world. It also has the fasting growing infrastructure among all major cities. People never expected such a rapid development in a Middle Eastern city, and the government is putting the money to good use. With so much revenues pouring in the city, Dubai current leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who also serves as the Prime Minister and Vice President of the entire United Arab Emirates, has commissioned numerous groundbreaking projects.
